This policy applies to Alpina Brokers (FSP 42616) and to www.alpinabrokers.co.za. We are the “responsible party” for the personal information we process, as defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

We only collect the information we need to quote on, place and service your insurance. Depending on the cover you need, this may include:

• Identity and contact details — name, ID or passport number, date of birth, address, phone number and email address.
• Details of the risk to be insured — vehicles, property, business assets, security equipment, firearms and the like.
• Insurance history — previous insurers, claims history, cancelled or declined cover.
• Business information — company registration, directors, financial and operational information for commercial cover.
• Banking details for premium collection and claim payments.
• Information you send us through the contact or quote form on this website.

• To give you advice and obtain quotes from insurers.
• To place, administer and renew your policies.
• To submit and follow up on claims on your behalf.
• To comply with our legal obligations under the FAIS Act, FICA, POPIA and insurance legislation.
• To respond to your enquiries and keep you informed about your cover.

We will not sell your information, and we will only send you marketing about new products if you have agreed to it. You can opt out at any time.

We share your information only where it is needed to provide our services, or where the law requires it:

• Insurers and underwriting managers we approach for quotes or with whom your cover is placed.
• Claims assessors, loss adjusters and service providers appointed on a claim.
• Industry databases used by insurers to prevent fraud, such as the South African Insurance Crime Bureau.
• Our compliance officer, auditors and regulators such as the FSCA, when required by law.

Everyone we share information with is required to keep it confidential and secure.

Our website may use essential cookies to function properly and basic, anonymous analytics to understand how it is used. You can disable cookies in your browser settings. Information you submit through our forms is used only to respond to your request.

Our website may link to insurer and third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites.

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. We keep records for as long as the law requires — generally at least five years after our relationship ends, as required by the FAIS Act and FICA — after which they are securely destroyed.
